What To Wear
As with any healthcare appointment, it may be necessary to ask you to remove your clothing around the area to be examined and treated. This may mean dressing down to underwear. It is essential that you feel at ease, therefore if you feel uncomfortable undressing to your underwear then ideally soft clothes such as shorts, leggings, t-shirt would be suitable. Jeans and cords have very hard seams, so would probably have to be removed.
You are welcome to ask a friend or relative to accompany you as a chaperone and be present throughout your appointment. Children should always be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout treatment.
Your Treatment
After notetaking and examination, a diagnosis will be made, and a best health care strategy, that takes into account your lifestyle and work routines, will be discussed with you. This may involve further visits for manual therapy – a range of gentle hands-on techniques that focus on reducing pain and improving the quality and range of joint movements, releasing tension and stretching muscles. When appropriate you will be given exercises that you can do at home and helpful advice, designed to help you relieve or manage your pain, keep active and maintain the best of health. Treatment will normally begin at your first appointment, but sometimes it may be necessary to refer you for further tests first i.e., blood tests, scans, to your GP or another appropriate health professional.
Is Treatment Painful?
Osteopathic treatment is usually a very gentle process with every effort made to make treatment as painless as possible, but you may experience some discomfort during and after treatment. Following treatment, you may experience some mild soreness in the area of the body that was treated, this will normally go away within 48 hours. If you experience serious or unusual symptoms after treatment, you should contact me straight away for advice.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes, that the full fee is charged if the patient fails to attend or give less than 24 hours’ notice of cancellation.
What are postural analysis photos used for?
When you visit the bluebell clinic, in addition to physical examination, neurological and orthopaedic testing we use the latest digital technology to accurately assess your posture. If you are happy to consent to this, then your therapist will simply take two photos of you, one from the front and one from the side.
These photos are then fed into the computers software, where your posture is evaluated and calculations are given on the pressure being placed throughout the joints of your body.
Your therapist will then go through the analysis at your next appointment.
